Feature and Follow Friday #211

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and ayou must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

How To Become a Featured Blog?

We pick our featured blogs randomly each week from the blogs who participated the week before.

Please be sure to feature your e-mail address clearly on your blog. Either on the main blog, on a Contact page, or on an About Me page. If I can't find your email easily, I will choose a different blog to feature.

Our Feature - Loving the Language of Literacy

1. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging a little less than eight months ago on December 8, 2013. When I found out that I could ramble about what I love most to random people on the internet and interact with just as crazy (or more in some cases) fangirls, I immediately jumped on the chance and posted a review (which wasn't very good).

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

I literally love every moment of book blogging, but my favorite part is when people comment or tweet me about a post. It proves that I'm not just sending random pixels out into cyberspace, and that people are actually reading what I spent time rambling writing. Through seemingly insignificant interaction, I have gained some amazing friends and fellow fangirls who actually understand my obsession with books.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

Ninety-five percent of the time, I blog about Young Adult books mostly because those are the books I enjoy reading, and therefore want to tell people about. My two favorite sub-genres are science fiction/dystopian and what could be considered "depressing" contemporary fiction.

4. What are your favorite books?

I'm lucky this question has the parenthesis because I would have listed more than one anyways. My favorites are The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins, The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu (you know I had to include it), The Ascendence Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen, and nearly anything written by Laurie Halse Anderson, David Levithan, Andrew Smith, and Ellen Hopkins.

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

In order not to repeat myself (otherwise this question would just be a rephrasing of #2), I will say the chance to discover all of these new and old books and authors I would never have even heard about otherwise. I also adore the opportunity to go to book signings and see these amazing creators of some of my favorite characters and worlds in person.

Question of the Week: What is your favorite tv series that you can watch over and over again on Netflix?

*First thing:  A reminder that if you want to be chosen as the Feature for #FF, please have your email address somewhere on your blog. I know there are other ways to contact people including Twitter and contact forms, but I've set up my #FF system in such a way that I need an email address. So for better or worse, that's the requirement for now.

I went about 10 years hardly ever watching TV. Over the past year or so, I've been trying to make up for lost time through binge-watching old shows. I actually prefer Amazon Prime, but also use Netflix and Hulu Plus. I love subscription sites. We cancelled our cable because we never watch regular TV.

All-time favorite obsessed-with shows on Netflix: Doctor Who, Sherlock, and West Wing

 Recent Binge-Watches:

Veronica Mars (I'm in the second season and loving it)
The Thick of It (the BBC show that made Peter Capaldi a household name in the UK pre-Doctor Who - It's on Hulu Plus)
Firefly (got my parents into it too)
Torchwood (grown-up Doctor Who)
Downton Abbey (Still like this but not as into it as I used to be)
I started Orphan Black, MI-5/Spooks, House of Cards, Merlin, and Scandal. I like all of them but haven't watched them in awhile. I need to catch up.

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

  3. Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say "hi" in your comments and that they are now following you.
  5. If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn't have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followed
  6. Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "HI"

  1. We watch a lot of similar shows, Alison. I just became a fan of Doctor Who in the last couple of years. Love Sherlock and my husband and I are making our way through The West Wing. I've had Downton Abbey viewing parties with my co-workers. It was a blast.

  23. Thanks for stopping by this week Alison. Rejseholdet is also known as Unit One. It starred Mads Mikkelsen among others.
I'm pretty sure Borgen did get a US DVD release - maybe try Amazon? If you can play multi-region discs then Rejseholdet, The Killing and The Bridge all had UK and Australian DVD releases and will be on Amazon. I'm not sure on US for those ones. I don't think so.

  27. I used to watch almost every tv show there was. I ran out of DVR space for them all but then all of a sudden I stopped caring. No idea why.

The only thing I watch over and over are cheesy Hallmark movies. Their not even that good but I watch them anyway. lol
