Feature and Follow Friday

The Feature & Follow is back with a few changes.

The Feature & Follow is back after a two-month hiatus! I know you missed it. I've missed it too! But we wanted to make it bigger and better - and I hope we have accomplished that.

THE CHANGES:

  • Weekly Features will be chosen from LIKES on the linkylist and not as random.
  • Bloggers and Authors will get to have ONE spot a quarter (90 days) as the feature. But, you can still participate.
  • The reason we are switching to this method is because we had issues with contacting people. This way we just choose them.
  • We have also switched to THUMBNAIL link list – use a graphic that you want us to use when we showcase you as the feature.
  • Weekly questions have been changed to Post Prompts. Very similar just a little more open ended.
  • We are asking for ideas submitted by participants.
  • We will have the post schedule available so you can schedule in advance.

HOW DOES THE #FF WORK?

  • The goal is to increase blog followers, make friends and have something to post.
  • You create your own post using the post prompt.
  • You leave your link and thumbnail in the linky list that links back to your post prompt.
  • Once you have your post up and linked, visit other posts and tell them hi. The point is to FOLLOW them not just comment.
  • If you see a post that just hit it to the moon, or just want to show appreciation to a fellow blogger friend, like their name on the linky list to show some appreciation.
  • The person with the most likes gets chosen as the next Feature (you can be chosen every 90 days unless we are in need of features)
  • It is required that if you participate that you have to follow the FEATURE. It is a big no-no to participate and ignore the feature. They are the special snowflake in this little blizzard.
  • As a participant it is up to your discretion on how you want people to follow. Please post RSS, GFC etc if you have a follow of choice.
Specific RULES
  • Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
  • Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say “hi” in your comments and that they are now following you.
  • If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn’t have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followedFollow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don’t just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don’t say “HI”
  • Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don’t just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don’t say “HI”
  • If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the Love…and the followers
THE WEEKLY FEATURE:

THE POST PROMPT:

What blurbs do you feel are wrong or misleading?

MY ANSWER

*Sorry that my blog has been so lackluster the past few months. I'm having a super busy time in life, both with traveling and other stuff. I'm hoping to get back to posting more than once or twice a week in the New Year.

First of all, I get blurbs and synopses mixed up. Blurbs technically are where one author recommends another author's books. In my head, I refer to synopses as blurbs. So that's what I'm referring to here.

I can't think of any specific blurb. So I'll talk in general of what I dislike in blurbs.

-Spoilers, of course
-Alternatively, blurbs that aren't specific enough - I at least want a sense of the plot
-I don't like it when a blurb seems to spend practically more time talking about how great the author is than the book itself.

-On the author blurbs - using the correct definition - I dislike anything that makes it seem like the blurber is only complimenting the book as a favor to someone and perhaps hasn't even read it.

Hermione is the first person who comes to mind. And that's partly true in the bookish know-it-all sense. I'm not as brave as Hermione though.

Going way back to the Babysitter's Club, I was a lot like Mary Anne. As a kid, I wouldn't have thought so - or at least I wouldn't have wanted to admit it, since I wished I was more like sophisticated Stacy. But I was a lot like Mary Anne (even though she still isn't my favorite character).

I can't particularly think of other characters who I'm like. In general, I fit will into the bookish, studious, somewhat quiet character mode. Like a lot of readers.

      Show us your holiday reads!

I have an unusual take on this question. My "holiday reads" aren't really meant to be Christmas books. Rather they are books, I read every year at Christmas time.

Well, the Harry Potter series is my main holiday read. I re-read the entire series every fall. I usually finish in Late December. I started this year in mid-October. I'm currently early on in the 7th book. I would have finished the series sooner, but I've been taking breaks to read other things.

Pride and Prejudice is the other book that I re-read every year. I usually get to it in late December or occasionally early January.

As far as Christmas books go, I have actually never read Dickens' A Christmas Carol. I'd like to read it this year - I own a copy. We'll see it I get around to it.

What is your favorite book with a "winter" world?

Wow...I don't know. I'll have to look at my Books Read list on Goodreads to remember any "winter" world books.

Let's see. Books primarily set in a winter world...

Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver series. I love how she describes winter.

The Harry Potter books - the winter setting is such a strong part of the series.

Uprooted by Naomi Novak. This is kind of a cheat. It's set in a fictional world that resembles Poland. The book isn't necessarily wintery, but it has a cold feel to it.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. Set in Alaska in the early 1900s. A hauntingly beautiful book.

        How about you?

*Sorry that my blog has been so lackluster the past few months. I'm having a super busy time in life, both with traveling and other stuff. I'm hoping to get back to posting more than once or twice a week in the New Year.

I'm thankful for bloggers. That sounds like a dumb answer to this question, but it's not. I've kept up with blogging largely because of other bloggers - my friends. And the longer you keep blogging, the harder it becomes. More and more of your friends stop blogging. It gets too hard to continue. It's not fun anymore. I totally get that. As you can obviously see, I've been struggling with blogging lately. That makes me sad, because I really do enjoy it and want to get back in to the habit.

For all the struggles of blogging, I'm grateful for my fellow bloggers who keep me in the blog word, even if not as actively as I'd like.
