The Great Shelby Holmes by Elizabeth Eulberg

Release Date:
September 6, 2016
Publisher:
Bloomsbury USA Childrens
Source: BEA

Summary

Meet spunky sleuth Shelby and her sports-loving sidekick Watson as they take on a dog-napper in this fresh twist on Sherlock Holmes. Shelby Holmes is not your average sixth grader. She’s nine years old, barely four feet tall, and the best detective her Harlem neighborhood has ever seen—always using logic and a bit of pluck (which yes, some might call “bossiness”) to solve the toughest crimes.

When eleven-year-old John Watson moves downstairs, Shelby finds something that’s eluded her up till now: a friend. Easy-going John isn’t sure of what to make of Shelby, but he soon finds himself her most-trusted (read: only) partner in a dog-napping case that'll take both their talents to crack.

Sherlock Holmes gets a fun, sweet twist with two irresistible young heroes and black & white illustrations throughout in this middle grade debut from internationally bestselling YA author Elizabeth Eulberg (courtesy of Goodreads)

Waiting on Wednesdays: Iron Cast by Destiny Soria

Iron Cast by Destiny Soria

Publish Date: October 11, 2016
Publisher: Amulet Books

I was immediately drawn in by this cover. I love the mixture of historical fiction and fantasy. Plus, I enjoy reading books set in the 1920s (or 1919, which is close enough).

The Memory Book by Lara Avery

Release Date:
July 31, 2016
Publisher:
Little Brown UK
Source: Purchased

Summary

They tell me that my memory will never be the same, that I'll start forgetting things. At first just a little, and then a lot. So I'm writing to remember.

Sammie was always a girl with a plan: graduate at the top of her class and get out of her small town as soon as humanly possible. Nothing will stand in her way--not even a rare genetic disorder the doctors say will slowly start to steal her memories and then her health. What she needs is a new plan.

So the Memory Book is born: Sammie's notes to her future self, a document of moments great and small. It's where she'll record every perfect detail of her first date with longtime crush, Stuart--a brilliant young writer who is home for the summer. And where she'll admit how much she's missed her childhood best friend, Cooper, and even take some of the blame for the fight that ended their friendship.

Through a mix of heartfelt journal entries, mementos, and guest posts from friends and family, readers will fall in love with Sammie, a brave and remarkable girl who learns to live and love life fully, even though it's not the life she planned. (courtesy of Goodreads)

A new Veronica Roth! The plot doesn't actually catch my eye that much, but I do like Veronica Roth so hopefully she'll impress me.

Waiting on Wednesdays: Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill

Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill

Publish Date: December 27, 2016
Publisher: Harcourt Childrens Books

This sounds like a great fantasy adventure story! The cover looks very fairy taley, but the synopsis feels a lot more high fantasy. Surprised it's being released Dec. 27 - that's a dead time for books. I wonder if that's a bad sign...
