Feature and Follow Friday #97

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

Our Feature -Tribute Books Mama

BWS tips button
1. When did you start blogging?

I started back in October 2010.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

I love engaging with book lovers on a daily basis. It's always interesting to see what everyone else is reading, and to share my thoughts on the books I've read. Plus it sure is a great way to increase the height of your to-read pile!

3. What is your favorite book(s)?

I'd have to say the ones my daughter, Nicole, publishes through her indie press, Tribute Books (http://www.tribute-books.com). They are such engaging young adult ebooks like "Spectral" from Shannon Duffy and "Until Next Time: The Angel Chronicles" by Amy Lignor. It's great getting a chance to introduce new readers to these e-titles through my blog.

4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

I would have to say the friendships I have made, especially Kathy at Bermudaonion.net. I admire her so much.

Q: Summer Break is upon us! What would be the perfect vacation spot for you to catch up on your reading & relax?

Vacations can be one of two things: relaxing or busy. I love both kinds. But busy vacations do not allow for much reading, which is a downer.

Here's a few relaxing vacations I'd love to do:

1) Cruise - I love cruising. Depending on the ports, these vacations can be very busy, but for a relaxing vacation I'd choose a Caribbean cruise.
2) Cabin or B&B in Duluth or Grand Marais, Minnesota: I love Northern Minnesota. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend checking it out.
3) Hilton Head Island: We went to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina last May and had a great time. I read 9 books in a week!
4) Carmel/Monterey: I'd love to stay at a nice resort in the Carmel or Monterey area and relax in beautiful scenery.

Busy/Non-reading Vacations:

1) Italy: I've been through northern Europe, but not Italy
2) Paris: I spent 3 days in Paris several years ago and really want to go back for several weeks.
3) London: Probably my favorite city in the world.
4) San Francisco: I go here pretty often since I'm only 90 minutes away, but I can't get enough of it.
5) Hong Kong: We went here 3 years ago on a 24 hour lay-over. I'd really like to explore it more.
6) Japan: I love Japan. We spent 10 days there a few years ago and hope to go back soon. My husband has lots of friends there since he's fluent and used to live there.
7) Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc: I really want to make a trip out to south-east Asia some time.
8) New York City: And I'm going there! I don't know whether I'm more excited for BEA or just for NYC.

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

We have a new button, so update your blogs if you are used to doing this meme!

  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say "hi" in your comments and that they are now following you.
  5. If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn't have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followed
  6. Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "HI"

  2. I love your answer. Extremely well thought out. I've been to Italy and Paris when I was stationed there during my stint in the Navy. I would absolutely love to go back!

  3. Great post Alison!! London is also my favorite city in the world!! Hopefully I can study abroad there when I am in college :)

Also, Italy is AMAZING!! The art, the people, the food..I loved it all :) Hope that you can go soon :D

  5. Wow, you really listed your spots! I just thought of a couple that might actually be possible for me to go visit. I would LOVE to visit Italy!
I'm hopping through from Novels, News & Notes but also blog at Candace's Book Blog (just so you don't get confused. ;)

  6. Love your list! I have to say that the busy nonreading vacations are more my style though. I love to read but when I go on vacation I want to see as much of the place as I can see and that just doesn't leave anytime for reading. I love reading but the books will be there for me when I get home, the maybe-once-in-a-lifetime attractions won't.

  9. Excellent choices! I had a chance to visit Carmel/Monterey with my father right before I got married. It was an amazing time, and I shall never forget it. Cruises? I envy you!!! I have yet to actually go on one!

  11. I totally agree. The last vacation I had, I took three books with me, and did no reading whatsoever.

    Thanks for stopping by! :)

  12. Hi & Happy Friday!

Your locations each sound perfect for a bit of R&R (and sightseeing ;)..

    Hopping through! :)

  15. Omg, awesome list of busy vacations!!!

I've been to Singapore and it is totally worth it! Super safe, awesome food, lots of shopping and plenty of iconic 'tourist-y' places to go to including Universal Studios, Sentosa Island etc.

Sorry really went off on a limb there. The only two countries I've been too other than Australia were China (because I'm Chinese) and Singapore (where part of my family lives)!

Also to answer your snow in Australia question:

It very, very super rarely snows in Australia. Never in my state, WA, occasionally in the Eastern States, where there are snowy mountains, but even then its rare and there's not much of it :(

Hahaha, and don't worry Australia is a pretty isolated country - geographically.

I absolutely love snow - well the 'look' of it, I've never actually felt or seen it in real life!

    Thanks for stopping by! x

  16. Cruises are delightful! That's actually how I went to Zihuatanejo. It's way south Pacific side in Guerrero, Mexico.

I used to live in Minnesota way back in the day and want to vacation there soon. It's been too long. So beautiful!

    Nice to meetcha!

  17. What a list. Ummm yes yes and yes? I would love to go to any and all of those places. But I do have a special place in my heart for cruises. You can be crazy busy while your docked, but when you're out at sea you don't have to feel guilty about just relaxing.

And I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about NYC once you get here!

  18. Your relaxing choices are actually really good! I think those would be great! Unfortunately I didn't think that big "/ haha.

HongKong is fanatstic, love this city!

My most relaxing vacations are always in Thailand - I love this country and the people there and every year we spend 3 weeks there and 2 weeks is mostly relaxing on the beach and reading!!!
    Happy Friday!

I've been to Paris and San Francisco before and I agree, not ideal reading destinations. Too much stuff to do. But still fun holidays. I really want to go to Japan as well. Oh and I have been to London but, as I live so close, it is not really a holiday. :D

  35. Oooo good question! My favorite vacation spot would be my parent's house on Lake Michigan. The hubs and I pack up our two dogs and drive the 7 hours to see them and then get to just sit back and watch the dogs play in the water. It's awesome:) Though I wouldn't mind going on a cruise either! And now I'm very ready for vacation!

  41. I like busy vacations more than non-busy ones. I like to get out and see the sights and do things. Even on a cruise ship, I wouldn't just be content to sit and read. I'd want to go to the pool and swim, enjoy all the fun stuff to do on the boat, etc.

  42. Hi sweetie. New Follower and new to Feature and Follow. Great choices. OMG Monterey/Carmel is my hometown. All my family is still there. Beautiful place for vacation. I was just there for Christmas then in Feb. will be going back most likely end of summer. A Cruise would be nice. Lived In Germany for 7 years. So have been all over Europe. Been to Italy twice. Once with my big crazy Italian family and another time for my senior trip. Went to the International School of Dusseldorf, Germany so every year for class trips we would go to different countries. Italy was fun and def. very busy. Have a nice weekend.
