Feature and Follow Friday #81

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

Our Feature -Fiction Fervor

Once upon a time, there was a teen who loved reading YA books. Day and night, she read and read and read books from all genres of fiction -- fantasy, paranormal, dystopia, science fiction, and more. But she grew weary from having a limited choice of books at her local library. And thus, Fiction Fervor was born. Over one year old, Fiction Fervor is composed of three teens now: Thy (the one who was the most avid reader), Tori (the one who had the most thoughtful reviews), and Linda (the one who was the founder with the biggest dreams yet).

Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

There are definitely genres that I don't like much, but I prefer to think of them as genres I haven't yet learned to like rather than definitively and permanently them on a "do not read" blacklist. After all, I spent my entire childhood hating anything that hinted of fantasy. Now, at least half of my reading is in the high fantasy, urban fantasy, or paranormal romance genre.

That being said, the genres that I typically do not read are: Science Fiction and Mysteries.

It's regrettably common to dislike science fiction and I wish I could get beyond it. I've liked books like The Host by Stephenie Meyer and the Ender's Game books (by Orson Scott Card), but on the whole sci fi books don't interest me. I'm not sure why I dislike mysteries. Particularly because most books have a mystery element to them even if they're not specifically categorized as mysteries. For whatever reason, books that are entirely focused on mysteries typically do not hold my focus. Then again, I recently read Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James and I enjoyed that.

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

We have a new button, so update your blogs if you are used to doing this meme!

  1. I definitely do not like Science fiction either! I like to stick to my YA contemporary stories! M FF!

  2. I'm so so on Science Fiction. It pretty much depends on the book, some I like (like you I liked The Host by Stephenie Meyer) and some I don't like.

  3. I can understand the Science Fiction thing, because I'm very difficult with that and I try to not read a lot. But I really like Mystery books.

  4. Same here. I don't like science fiction or mysteries. Never have. I can maybe sit through an Agatha Christie on a good day but most anything else is a total loss.

  5. When it's high sci-fi and fantasy that will get me into trouble and it would have been best to steer clear away. I'm still getting to know others. My FF

  6. Science Fiction is not my preferred genre either.
    Have a great weekend.

Stop by my HOP if you have a chance.

  10. I have actaully seen a lot of people mention sci-fi and I get it. I read sci-fi from time to time but it is harder for me to get into these types of books. Mysteries go either way for me too.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  11. I wasn't a fan of Science Fiction either, but that I found Ann Aguirre's Sirantha Jax series and fell in love. I suppose it doesn't count, though, as it's a Sci Fi/romance hybrid.

    Here's our #FF post

  13. I actually like science fiction although I haven't read any for a few months now... And mysteries, do you mean books like Sherlock Holmes where the main character has to solve a case and that sort of thing?

    This is my answer^^

    Happy Friday, Alison! :D

  14. Aw I love a good mystery. I usually do like a little mixed into it but every once in a bit I sit down with just a mystery mystery and enjoy. Guess it depends on the author too just like with scifi though.

  16. I don't read Sci-Fi either. But that is where they always shelve my UF and other paranormal books.

  17. I love mysteries but am very picky about sci-fi, some I like others are just too much.

  18. Oh, you don't like mysteries! I do, I'm a huge Agatha Christie fan :) But I agree with you on sci-fi, I've never really liked that genre!

Old follower and it's my first FF! xxx

  19. I've never been much of a mystery fan either. The "mystery" element just doesn't hold my attention - so when the entire book is based around it I tend to get distracted quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I guess sci-fi is one I haven't been able to get into either now that you mentioned it. Love the new button and have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh noo, I've added myself twice! I searched for my name and it didn't show up even though i hit F5, and now it did. >_<' (And for some reasons the Linkytool even allowed me to enter my Link twice. o.o) *ashamed face* I'm so sorry!!

On another note: I'm not a big huge Science Fiction or Mysteries reader either, mainly because none have ever grabbed my attention.

  22. Science fiction's not really my thing as well. :)

  23. I'm really picky about sci-fi! I love sci-fi, but some of it is so dull to me.

Mysteries it really depends too...they have to have something "extra".

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hm. I guess I really stay away from anything nonfiction - memoirs and the like. I like to get swept away in a crazy fictional world, so paranormal is my go to genre of choice:) Like you, science fiction isn't really my thing, though I've read a couple I've enjoyed (like The Host). Hope you have a wonderful weekend Alison!

  25. I love cozy mysteries. They all have basically the same storyline but there are so many different types it's really fun to read them all. Thanks for following me at Reading With Monie.

  26. I like your concept of not having learned to enjoy the genre yet. I am learning to like sci-fi. I like historical mysteries, not contemporary ones. Have a great weekend! Old follower.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love the idea of "genres I haven't yet learned to like"--that's how I feel about most book genres I haven't gotten into. My tastes change, so in time they could become favorites!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like to try different ones, happy Friday.

  29. I don't know what I should think about Sci-fi. I didn't read it yet.
And I think that my genre would be, Western. I really don't have anything with it, so I think I would never read it.

  32. Have you tried reading any cozy mysteries? I've read a few (Lily Bard series by Charlaine Harris is my favorite) and I really enjoyed them. They are usually a light, easy read.

  34. I also only like a few science fiction books. My favorite is Ender's game. I love mysteries, especially Agatha Christie, because I always enjoy solving them.

  35. I do not think I have read a lot of Science Fiction, so I cannot say if I like it or not. I really want to read the Hose by Stephanie Meyer but I haven't had the chance. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by my blog today! :)

  36. I personally think that science fiction is definitely not my favorite, but a few of them are pretty good, like Across the Universe. And mysteries? I love them, hahaha. Especially Agatha Christie's and Arthur Conan Doyle's.

Thanks for featuring us this week!

  38. It seems like a lot of people who don't love scifi still give Orson Scott Card a chance. Which is great, because those books are full of awesome.

  39. Thanks for hopping by my blog last week! I like juvi and YA sci-fi, but adult sci-fi has never been my genre of choice. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I also avoid Science Fiction.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I too avoid science fiction (adult) never really my type of reading

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't like westerns, memoirs or horror very much. I like scifi but not dark scifi

    ReplyDelete
  43. You have a great attitude toward reading different kinds of books. I think we all have our favorite types of reads but it's refreshing to venture outside of it sometimes. Thanks for stopping by my blog today. :)

    Have a great weekend!

  44. It's hard for me to say SciFi since that is where dystopian is typically categorized. And I love dystopican! :)
