I'm Alison. I've been blogging for a year. I review mainly YA with a few MG books and a weekly manga feature.

On the blog this week:

Princess for Hire by Lindsey Leavitt

Manga Mondays

Chibi Vampire vol. 1 by Yuna Kagesaki

Questions of the Week:

Blog Hop: How many books are currently on your TBR pile?

I don't keep a specific TBR list. I have probably about 10-15 books that I own that I still need to read. But my general TBR is much larger. It basically consists of every book I hear about that sounds even vaguely interesting :-)

Follow Friday: Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

I don't have one genre that I prefer over another. I love contemporary fiction. That's always been my traditional go-to.

I also love historical fiction. As a kid, I devoured Ann Rinaldi's books. Now, my favorite author is Jeff Shaara (I just got his new one from the library. Yay!)

I increasingly enjoy fantasy and paranormal. I first got turned onto fantasy by...surprise, surprise...Harry Potter. I hated fantasy as a kid. If it had a supernatural element, I wouldn't touch it. I only picked up Harry Potter, because I was working at B&N at the time and everyone was asking about it. I am also a new paranormal lover. Twilight (big shocker, right?) introduced me to that genre. I wouldn't have gotten nearer than a cross's width to a vampire prior to Twilight. Now I can't stay away...be they werewolves, vampires, witches, etc (although vampires are my first love).

  3. Hello! Old Follower stopping by!

Historical fiction is my favorite genre! It was really hard for me to pick as well but I decided on one genre by seeing how many books of that genre I had on my bookshelf!

You're "wouldn't have gotten nearer than a cross's width to a vampire prior to Twilight" made me giggle.

  15. Oh wow! Seeing a lot of people say that they only got into paranormal in the recent years! I was 13--10 years ago, my god--when I became addicted to paranormal books. Of course back then, they were incredibly hard to find!

    Here's my Friday Hops

  20. I can't really narrow down a favourite genre. I have always loved paranormal (it started when I was a kid with the Buffy the Vampire TV series... I know...). I also love contemporary and historical fiction as well.

Have a great week Alison - I hope you get some work done on that TBR pile! :)

I have a similar circumstance in my TBR pile. Eventually I had to stop listing the ones I didn't own but wanted to read--it kind of got out of control.

  23. Hello, friend! Old follower here!
I have to completely agree with you about Harry Potter. My aunt was a project manager at Borders' corporate office, and even she had read them before I did. Finally, when she was visiting, she brought them home and said 'you need to see these'. Ever since, I was hooked.
As for Twilight.. I feel like it's a hard thing to admit that Twilgiht was the book that introduced you into the paranormal romance genre, but at the same time, I feel like Stephenie Meyer really paved the way for a lot of the books that are coming out by the dozen these days. And, I couldn't be happier. :D

Thank you for following, Alison. I really really do appreciate it.

  28. Happy Friday Alison! I think Twilight turned a whole bunch of us on to the paranormal genre, I hadn't read a thing with vampires in it prior to that one either, and probably wouldn't have bothered if I didn't love those books so much:) Hope you have a great weekend!

  32. My TBR pile keeps growing because I keep adding any book that sound vaguely interesting. At some point, I'm going to have to stop adding books to it so that I can hope to read everything on it. LOL.

  33. Hi, just hopping by! I love a bit of most genres, but vampires and werewolves just aren't my thing so I think I'm in a minority.

  34. 10-15 books owned but not read is pretty good. My number is always around 40.

  35. My favorite genre is modern fiction/mainstream fiction. My list of book not read but own is probably near 100. Sad. :-( I'm addicted to the library store and amazon. Currently looking for a book rehab. But it's not really bad I guess, I own four to five times that amount of books. So 25% isn't too bad I suppose.

Well, just hopping by to say hello. :-)

  36. I love historical fiction! My favorite historical fiction author is Carolyn Meyer. I've only read one Ann Rinaldi book (Nine Days a Queen) but I really liked it.

In any case, I'm a returning follower. I'm about to start trying out some contemporary YA. I need to broaded my horizons a bit, so to speak. Hope you have a great weekend!

  43. Hi Alison. Thanks for stopping by. You asked about Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. She writes historical vampire fiction and it is amazing. It's almost like reading literary/historical fiction but with vampires. So well written. I highly highly recommend her stuff. If you google her name her website will tell you more! ;)

Harry Potter was also what got me into fantasy, but to be honest, Twilight has really turned me off anything with a vampire or a werewolf!!!

  48. Hi Alison! First I want to thank you so much for stopping by my blog, and second, I have to tell you that your blog is so cute! I LOVE the design and the blog header is so amazingly adorable! I'm following you back for sure! :)

I'm definitely a fantasy and paranormal girl, and I adore reading contemporary too! Those ones, especially Sarah Dessen, are so sweet.

And I'm a lot like you since we were both introduced to paranormal reading by Twilight. Actually, Twilight is what made me addicted to reading in general! x)

Hope you have an awesome weekend!

  49. Hey chica! I used to read a lot of general chic-lit, but broke into paranormal with a Laurell K. Hamilton book (Meredith Gentry series no less) because it was recommended to me. Picked up Twilight a couple of years ago and loved it. But my fav genre right now is probably Dystopian. OMGtheworldisgonnaend stuff really gets my attention. Happy FF!
