Crazy For Books' Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop

Parajunkee's Follow My Book Blog Friday.

I'm Alison. I've been blogging for ten months. I review mainly YA with a few MG books and a weekly manga feature.

On the blog this week -

Big Review!

The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide by Stephenie Meyer

Giveaway, Interview, and Review

Ten Miles Past Normal by Frances O'Roark Dowell

Manga Mondays

Fruits Basket vol. 22 by Natsuki Takaya

Questions of the Week:

Blog Hop: Pick a character from a book you are currently reading or have just finished and tell us about him/her.

I recently read Lindsey Leavitt's Princess for Hire and Royal Treatment. The main character is Desi Bascomb. She's just a typical 8th grader from small town Idaho. Her mom may dream of Desi being a pageant beauty queen like she was, Desi prefers to spend her free time designing funny T-shirts and watching classic movies. She's not very popular and has the typical low self-esteem of a young teenager.

This all changes when she discovers she has magic potential and becomes a Sub for princesses who need a break. While she helps young princesses get through state dinners and deal with royal princes, she discovers that she is a strong girl who is able to stand up for what she wants. The Princess for Hire books are super-cute. I highly recommend them.

Follow Friday: Do you have anyone that you can discuss books with IRL? Tell us about him/her.

Hmm...yes and no. My dad shares my taste in books about history and some of the adult fiction I read. My mother and I read a lot of the same adult fiction books. I've pawned a few books like The Mortal Instruments series and White Cat/Red Glove off on my husband, making him a fan of both series. I have one friend at work who is really into Twilight so we had a squealing coffee break on Wednesday to discuss The Twilight Guide. Otherwise, I don't have anyone who is as obsessed with young adult books as I am.

  1. I don't have anyone obsessed with books IRL either. My hubby hasn't picked up a book since we've been married. He's more of a gamer. LOL!! My mom and sis are big readers as well, so we do chat it up a bit. :)

  2. It's rare to have a male sig other who will read things like Mortal Instruments. You, are a lucky woman ^.^

  3. You know my Brother in Law loves Twilight so when I get a book I think he might like and I give it to him, I never dreamed he would like what I would like.

Happy weekend and thanks for stopping by my blog.

  10. I wish sometimes I could be able to talk to my mom about book stuff, but she just looks at me like "umm okay" especially when I drag her to the bookstore with me. She just doesn't get it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. My mom only reads romance novels and I read everything so sometimes we find something we both like. Good thing us lonely readers have the blogging community and each other :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. My mom and I frequently talk about JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. We both fell in love with those books, and with every new book we have more to discuss.

  24. Happy Friday Alison! At least your husband accepted some books, mine adamantly refuses to even open a page of one of mine:) Oh well, he doesn't care when I got to the bookstore and come back with a whole bag full so I guess I can cut him some slack! Hope you have a great weekend:)

She is the mother of four kids one of which has autism, she shares her love of reading with her kids as well as anyone who will listen. She and I tend to have the same view points on the books we read with the exception of twilight she is a wolf girl and I am a SOUTHERN vampire girl.

  48. Hi there! Thanks for hopping through. :) I'm following you as well!

You asked a hard question about quintessential Swedish books! I'm not really into the Swedish books at all. But yeah, Stieg Larsson. Perhaps Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist... but I really don't know. Most Swedish books are in the complete different genre for my reading habits!

Thanks for coming by on my blog!
    I am your newest follower.
It was nice to hear that you have been visiting the Baltic countries and Tallinn!
By the way, I might take you up on your suggestion about asking help about blogs. I will probably do it by email :)
Take care! I like you blog!

  51. My husband reads mostly books at my suggestion. I'm his book finder, if you will. But mostly the books I suggest to him are ones that I probably wouldn't read. He did, finally, just read To Kill a Mockingbird - and loved it. I've been waiting for him to read that for years!

  52. Hopping through! Princess for Hire sounds like a cute series. I love stories where the characters overcome their insecurities to be the best they can be.

Lucky you - I don't have anyone to talk to about books in real life, only the blogosphere... Those two books sound great! I really have to read something by Lindsey Leavitt!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Leavitt's book sounds great. I like books that give young women images of women they can identify with whose main advantage is strength of mind and ethics instead of a "hot body."

  59. I love the librarian at our school. I know she's the reason more kids are in the library reading. She takes the time to go out and find the popular and enjoyable YA books.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Finding an actual afficianado of horror literature around my neck of the woods is pretty much impossible, so I get where you're coming from with regards to finding people with an equally potent love for the same kind of books.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Obsessed is a good word. I guess there aren't that many of us out there. Funny, my parents were not big readers -- but I still ended up with this passion for books. I did get my 83 year old mom to read a Kristin Hannah book last year, and she liked it!

  74. Hey! So the pretty reckless is actually pretty good. Taylors voice is pretty good a little gritty its good for the type of music she is singing. She wont be singing RNB anytime soon. Lol. Check out the songs Make Me Wanna Die and Just Tonight. You can You Tube them. For only being 17 I was pretty impressed but I had hella low expectations. I usually dislike actors turned musicians. Except I do live 30 seconds to mars. Jered. Leto is a better singer than he ever was actor

  75. I don't really have anyone that's obsessed with books like I am either. I also find myself giving out books to other people I know in hopes that they will read it and then we can talk about it LOL. I keep trying to get my hubby to read, but he's an extremely slow reader and finds most of my books too long (says it will take him months to finish!)
