I always look forward to the arrival of my Quarterly Book Riot box. This was an extra special box. It's the very first YA Quarterly Book Riot Box!!!
I'm a sucker for all things bookish, so I'm subscribed to both boxes. That means $100 every quarter. At some point that may become too much, and I'll have to pick one. In the meantime, I'm excited to see what both boxes have in store!
Here is the box and its contents:
The box upon opening. Lots of goodies inside.
A trading card to go with the book Razorhurst - guess I should have posted this photo closer to the book. Oh well.
Super cute mug that came with chalk! Can't wait to try it out.
This looks like a fun game. I'm not sure if I'll keep it or regift it, but I know there are tons of people who would love this.
Another really great idea. I don't drink black tea so I'll regift this, but I think it's a great inclusion.
This look really interesting and will go towards helping my diverse books goal. Here's the Goodreads description:
When sixteen-year-old Tariq Johnson dies from two gunshot wounds, his community is thrown into an uproar. Tariq was black. The shooter, Jack Franklin, is white.
In the aftermath of Tariq's death, everyone has something to say, but no two accounts of the events line up. Day by day, new twists further obscure the truth.
Tariq's friends, family, and community struggle to make sense of the tragedy, and to cope with the hole left behind when a life is cut short. In their own words, they grapple for a way to say with certainty: This is how it went down.
This book sounds vaguely familiar to me but I didn't know much about it. It sounds really good though and I'm excited to read it. Here's the Goodreads description:
The setting: Razorhurst, 1932. The fragile peace between two competing mob bosses—Gloriana Nelson and Mr Davidson—is crumbling. Loyalties are shifting. Betrayals threaten.
Kelpie knows the dangers of the Sydney streets. Ghosts have kept her alive, steering her to food and safety, but they are also her torment.
Dymphna is Gloriana Nelson’s ‘best girl’, experienced in surviving the criminal world, but she doesn’t know what this day has in store for her.
When Dymphna meets Kelpie over the corpse of Jimmy Palmer, Dymphna’s latest boyfriend, she pronounces herself Kelpie’s new protector. But Dymphna’s life is in danger too, and she needs an ally. And while Jimmy’s ghost wants to help, the dead cannot protect the living . . .
Here it all is laid out in glory.
