Feature and Follow Friday #259

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and ayou must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

How To Become a Featured Blog?

We pick our featured blogs randomly each week from the blogs who participated the week before.

Please be sure to feature your e-mail address clearly on your blog. Either on the main blog, on a Contact page, or on an About Me page. If I can't find your email easily, I will choose a different blog to feature.

Our Feature - Hazy Reads

1. When did you start blogging?

My blog is very new - I've only been book blogging for a month or two (there are older posts on my blog from when I was still trying to find my niche). However, I'm no stranger to blogs. I had my first blog back in 2003 and I've had a couple of different blogs over the years. I'm hoping this one will be more successful than the others.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

I love talking about books. I'm very shy in real life but on a blog I can say what I think with less worry. I'll admit that I started this blog so that I might be able to get free books through Netgalley but for the moment I'm enjoying just writing about the books I've read for pleasure.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

I read mainly literary fiction, contemporary fiction and magical realism. I'm happy to go a little outside my comfort zone if a book looks interesting.

4. What are your favorite books?

My all time favourite books are the 'Tales of the City' series by Armistead Maupin. I read them the first time at University and I feel like they helped me become me. I also love the 'Madd Addam' trilogy by Margaret Atwood. The first book was unlike anything I had read before and it's made me read a lot of other books that I might not have considered before.

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

I think this! It's an honour to be so new to book blogging and get this opportunity. I've found the community so welcoming and friendly. Plus my TBR list has doubled in size in a very short time.

Question of the Week: Is there a book that you were required to read in school that you actually loved? - Suggested by Natalie Hearts Books.

I loved To Kill a Mockingbird. We had to read it in 9th grade. I'd read it on my own when I was in 6th grade, but I definitely didn't understand it well at the time. I'd like to read it again before Go Set a Watchmen comes out.

We had to read Pride and Prejudice in 10th grade. Everyone in my class hated it. I neither liked nor disliked it at the time. I re-read it when I was 22 and fell in love with it. Now I love it so much, that I re-read it every year.

Let's see...what else? I liked Jane Eyre. I also really liked The Iliad. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. The Jungle - until the end, which is so awful, our teacher recommended we skip it. We read the abridged version of Les Mis in 10th grade, which I adored. I quite liked Death of a Salesman. My teacher said that I was the only one who liked it and she never taught it again.

How about you?

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

To join the fun and make new book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:

  2. (Required) Follow our Featured Bloggers
  3. Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say "hi" in your comments and that they are now following you.
  5. If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn't have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followed
  6. Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "HI"
  7. If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the Love...and the followers
  8. If you're new to the Follow Friday hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!

  2. I never had to read To Kill a Mockingbird and (confession time) I've never read it! I should probably do so at some point. I feel a little left out with everyone talking about the Harper Lee's new book being released.

I loved Jane Eyre! I had to read it in high school and then again in college (Brit Lit). I love that time period and there's just something so dark about that book :)

  3. I wasn't a fan of the books I had to read at school, Hamlet was the closest I came to actually liking one of them.
Old follower, dropping by to say Hi!

  4. Nice interview, Alison!

Your first pick is one of my favorite books ever! I saw the movie years ago, and thought that Gregory Peck was just PERFECT for the role of Atticus Finch. Like you, I need to re-read this masterpiece, so I can go on to "Go Set A Watchman".

I like your other picks, too -- especially "Jane Eyre"!! As for "Pride and Prejudice", I hated it too, when I first read (or attempted to read) it in high school. It took me two more readings -- as an adult -- to start to appreciate this novel! Lol.

HAPPY FRIDAY!! Hope you have a GREAT weekend!! :)

  5. I read To Kill a Mockingbird in 9th grade too, but didn't enjoy it as much. I would have to re read it again just to understand it better :)

  7. Heehee! Nice picks! I remember reading a few of these, but none were ever favorites. I guess because when I was in high school I was already well into my paranormal reading. So having to stop for a "normal" book bored me to tears! It's weird since back then there were hardly any paranormal YA titles! LOL!

But finally in senior year we had to read the Count of Monte Cristo, and for reasons unknown, I really liked it! So much that I re-read it that summer!

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT day!

  14. To Kill a Mockingbird...such a great choice. I hope that is still required reading for schools. Just a thought-provoking story.

  15. We did read any of the books you mentioned in school. We focused more on grammar and such. I read Pride and Prejudice when the 2005 movie came out.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  16. It is my goal to read Les Mis mainly so I can say I read a book that was longer than 1,000 pages. I really need to start reading more classics! Jane Eyre is on my list, and Wuthering Heights. I read Pride and Prejudice for school, but didn't really enjoy/appreciate it. I must give it another try some day!

    Thank you for visiting!

  17. I actually just finally read To Kill a Mockingbird last year and it's now one of my favorites. Great book. I wish I had read it in school but I was a different reader back then. If it was scfi, or horror I didn't read it, lol.
Haven't had the pleasure of reading the others but they have been on my TBR. I want to read more classics.
Great picks! & Thanks for stopping over on my post!
    Happy Readings!

  18. I've only read Pride and Prejudice once, but it was pretty good, and then I lost the copy, but I found it, and hope to read it again! But I've seen the Kiera Knightly movie like, a million times! Old GFC follower! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!

I love comments. I appreciate every one! Thank you in advance.
