Feature and Follow Friday #190

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

How To Become a Featured Blog?

We pick our featured blogs randomly each week from the blogs who participated the week before.

Please be sure to feature your e-mail address clearly on your blog. Either on the main blog, on a Contact page, or on an About Me page. If I can't find your email easily, I will choose a different blog to feature.

Our Feature - Gizzimomo's Bookshelf

1. When did you start blogging?

Well I've been blogging for a while as I have a craft blog called Gizzimomo's Stitchy Place where I showcase my cross stitching and crafts and that has been up and running since September 2010. It's not your typical granny stitching but big complicated pieces, often featuring fantasy topics and are so much fun to do, sometimes you might even find me stitching a character/s from books and movies, as I have charts for characters from Lord Of The Rings, Game Of Thrones and Twilight!

The book blogging thing is pretty new, I only started the blog in December of last year but I had been thinking about doing it for a long time as my other passion besides needlework is books, I love them!

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

So far my favourite thing about book blogging is just having a medium to get all those things that books bring to you out into the open. I'm the only reader in my house so I don't having anyone real to talk to about what I think of books so the blog allows me to voice my thoughts and opinions.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

I've been making a point this year of trying to widen my reading horizons so the blog is about all kinds of genres but my favourite genres will always be fantasy, paranormal, horror and historical fiction. I will never just focus one type of book as I simply just don't read one type of book so with my blog you'll get all sorts of things. This year so far we've had YA, crime, humour, horror, mystery and historical. it makes for a good mix!

4. What are your favorite books?

This is the most difficult question in the world for me as I've been reading since I first learnt to read and I'm now 38 so I have literally decades of books behind me and choosing just one book, or even just one series of books, is nigh on impossible. There are many books that I make a point of re-reading... often and the foremost of those is The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings which I consistently read every couple of year, just because I love the story and with the movies coming out it's rude not to brush up on the story before seeing the film isn't it?

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

As I said book blogging is still very new to me so there hasn't been a lot of time for the good things to occur but since I started the book blog I have developed good relations with two fabulous publishers and I think I'm starting to make new friends now within the blogging community too. I think the best thing so far has to just be having the outlet to talk books to people who want to listen, that's pretty cool!

Question of the Week: Change the Plot. If you could, what book would you change the ending or a plot thread? Go ahead and do it...change it.

Breaking Dawn. Despite being a Twilight apologist, I had many issues with the last book of the series. I would have gotten rid of Renesmee. I agreed with Edward - she was a monster better excised early before she could kill Bella or annoy me as a reader. Or if she had to exist, I would have named her something that wasn't stupid.

I have less issues with the lack of a true fight scene, although I do like how the movie dealt with it. What I really wish is that we could have had a portion of the book from Alice's perspective as she and Jasper searched for Nahuel. This would have ruined the big reveal, but they could have done it as flashbacks. Plus, I'm much more of an Alice fan than I am a Bella fan.

I imagine I'll think of a few other books as I read through people's posts tonight so I may edit this post to add more.

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

Recommend some of your favorite back-list books - books that are at least a few years old (I’m thinking 5-10 years old rather than classics)

  4. I can't really remember if I was rooting for getting rid of Renesmee but I think, when the book finally ended, that I was OK with the end. But I am definitely a Twilight fan :)

  6. Nice! Saw Parajunkee says the same! That whole Renesmee or whatever was such a horrible name. While I'm not a fan, I did read the books before the big hype and I too had issues with that last one!

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT day!

  7. This question got away with me and I sort of rewrote the entirety of New Moon... I think I prefer it my way! I would've loved some chapters from Alice's perspective! Thanks for sharing and hosting :) I hope you have a great weekend

  9. So true. I hated the ending of this book, and I hated the ending of the movie more! I'm also a fan of Alice. My favorite characters in the series was her, Leah, and Seth. Great answer!

  10. Not a Twilight fan, but out of all four books I liked the last two books the best..lol. I liked Renesmee but I do wish she had a different name..I hate that name..lol. :)

  11. I'm more of an Alice fan myself. She's probably my favorite character in the series and I wouldn't wanted to hear more of her story than anything else.

Anyway, I completely agree. The ending was so . . . blah! All the lead up to nothing. Nada. Zero. Zip. What can ya do?

  12. I agree with you that I liked how the movie went about the fight scene in BD. I seriously don't think anyone likes Renesmee's name. I'm an Alice fan too.

  13. Oh yes I totally forgot about this book. Where should I start, I don't even know since everyone and everything irritated me =/

  14. I've seen this pop up quite a bit in the FF posts that I've read. I stopped reading it when Jacob imprinted. So I'd pretty much change that part since I didn't like it so much that it kept me from reading the rest of it.

Thanks for stopping by Tales Between the Pages

  15. I never actually got round to reading the Twilight books, but from everything I saw about Breaking Dawn it didn’t look good – Renesmee? Really? And imprinting… *shudders* Just no.
(Also FF newbie right here – my post's just up! *pluggity plug*)

  16. Preach! I never understood anything surrounding Renesmee. It felt like such a cop out.

  17. I had BD in my mind, but it wasn't as bad as Bloodrose. Far from it, I could live with it :P

  18. Old follower. I never really had a problem with Breaking Dawn. Once I watched New Moon though I started having a problem with her relationship with Edward. I noticed how much better a healthier for her Jacob would have been.

  19. It was a nice gesture if they had better names. Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

  20. My office mates would be disappointed - they are all Bella fans! Good job! Old follower. My FF

  21. Good pick! Renesmee always kind of freaked me out a little. Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

  22. Oh my gosh yes! I would have loved to see more Alice since I am an Alice fan myself. Even though they explained the search, I would have liked to see more of how Jasper and Alice dealt with the vampires that didn't want to volunteer.

This is my first time participating in the Feature and Follow so here is my post for this week: http://pottermorebook.blogspot.com/2014/02/feature-and-follow-1.html.

  23. Now see if she wasn't in the books then what would the final scene between the Volturi and the "good guys" have been about? And Jacob would've been left still without his future mate. Her nonexistence (or being killed off) would've completely changed the rest of the story. I do agree that her name was ridiculous!

Thanks again for stopping by my blog! Old follower.

  25. Breaking Dawn was alright but I agree that there should be more to the ending. Although I felt BD was the most boring compared to the first three.

  28. Hi Alison! Hope you had a great weekend. Hmm, if I could change the plot I would change that Heromine end up with harry Potter. I admit that their relationship always intrigued me and I would like to see what it would have been like had they ended up together.
