I've been doing Manga Mondays every week since I started my blog 2 years ago. It's always been a personal feature, but now I'm going to try turning it into a meme. There are quite a few people who do Manga Mondays. I don't claim by any means that I owned or created the idea of Manga Mondays - it's an obvious choice given the alliteration. I think a meme would be a good way for everyone to publicize their own Manga Mondays and get a little more publicity.
The linky will be below my review.
Skip Beat! vol. 26 by Yoshiki Nakamura
Kyoko Mogami followed her true love Sho to Tokyo to support him while he made it big as an idol. But he's casting her out now that he's famous! Kyoko won't suffer in silence--she's going to get her sweet revenge by beating Sho in show biz!
Kyoko thinks she's survived Valentine's Day, but that's just the kind of attitude that gets her in trouble with the president of LME. Lory is very disappointed in the girls of the Love Me Section and sets up special new assignments to teach them the power of love. But will the president's strange methods have any affect on the troubled souls of Chiori, Moko and Kyoko?(courtesy of the back cover and Goodreads)
*Warning: Potential spoilers. My manga reviews tend to be more of a summary than a review. I find it hard to review manga in the same way I do regular books.
Love Me has returned. We haven't seen much of Kyoko in her Love Me section role lately because she's been so busy acting. She gets a "dangerous" assignment from the President: she has to pick up a thug from the train station. Who is this yakuza (mafia) like figure who dresses in black, has long hair, and muscles that can attack virtually on their own? It is Cain Heel...who is really Ren Tsuruga! We were introduced to the idea that Ren would be playing sexy, evil villain a few volumes ago and now he appears.
Part of Ren's role in this movie is to convince everyone that he is Cain Heel both on and off camera. It doesn't help him that Kyoko recognizes him right away. It goes to show just how interested Kyoko is in Ren, even if she doesn't realize she "likes" him yet. She is aware of all his body measurements. Poor Ren is a little troubled that his cover was blown so quickly. He should take heart that no one other than Kyoko would know him.
Then things take another crazy turn when Kyoko gets tarted up to match Ren. She becomes Ren's black mini-skirt wearing, bare mid-riff, lip pierced baby sister. Ren and Kyoko go out in public as Cain and Setsu to get familiar with their characters. They're both struggling to stay in character, because they knew each other so well. I feel bad for Kyoko having to wear a lip piercing chained to her ear. It looks painful. But definitely edgy. Excited to see where these new roles take them.
