Feature & Follow Friday #64

Welcome to Feature & Follow Friday (err Thursday) on Parajunkee.com

If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, Rachel of Parajunkee and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

*Thanks so much to Rachel for allowing me to be part of the Follow Friday fun. Parajunkee is one of the best blogs out there and FF is a highlight of the blogging community. The FF has been one of my favorite parts of my week for over a year and I'm so excited to help my fellow book bloggers get to know each other better.

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you! Now to make this #FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger.

If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the link here for Follow Friday Feature or go to Parajunkee and click the drop down link above FEATURES > Feature & Follow Friday and get on the waiting list!

It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Our Feature - The World of the Spork Master

My name is Liz, and I blog over at The World of the Spork Master. I’m a high school Senior, and a huge nerd. I LOVE books, movies, and art. I share a little bit of everything on my blog, but it seems it all ties back to books!

I have two dogs - Blaze and Jasper - and a lot of cats. They consume a lot of my time. Other than reading, I love writing, photography, tea, Italian food, music (both playing and listening), biking, and creating adventures with friends.

I started blogging at the beginning of 2011 as part of my New Years Resolutions. I wanted to create a blog and update it consistently. I had no idea what it would turn into, I just went with it. I've never had success before, but no matter what happens, I'm determined to have a blog. Book wise, I mainly read YA books with themes of Fantasy, Paranormal, Sci-fi, and what have you. Mainly whatever I can get my hands on. I want to someday have my own library in my home, consisting of books beyond YA. I'm just absolutely crazy about books!

Q. Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?

It's funny how every #FF question seems to lead to Twilight for me. I don't plan it that way. But Twilight definitely is a series I keep coming back to. If I'm having a bad day, Twilight are the books I turn to. Losing myself in that series is the only way to stop my heart from pounding and my stomach from aching. It's amazingly cathartic.

Another series I turn to again and again is also a frequent #FF answer: Harry Potter. I re-read the series every year. I will probably start them in the next few weeks. It's amazing that I discover new things each time I read these books and fall in love with them even more.

Now that we've gotten our frequent answers over with, I'll list a few others. I adore the Betsy-Tacy
series by Maud Hart Lovelace. These books are set in Minnesota during the early 1900s. They are semi-autobiographical. The books tell the story of Betsy and her best friends Tacy and Tib from the age of 5 until their marriages. I didn't read them until I moved to Minnesota in my early twenties, but I absolutely adore them and can read them over and over.

Another forever love series is Anne of Green Gables. These are one of the few books where the movies are as good as the books (except for that last one...ick). I read Anne of Green Gables when I was about 8 and liked it. I didn't read the entire series until I was in college. Then I fell in love with the books. Anne of the Island is probably my favorite.

A modern series that I adore is the Caster Chronicles series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I really enjoyed Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Darkness when I first read them (although the second book was hard to get into). I re-read them recently and became totally obsessed. Sometimes it's easier to absorb books the second time around. I can't wait for the release of Beautiful Chaos.

  2. Great answer and, well, great question! I love how you re-read Harry Potter every year. The magic never dies does it? Oooh, bad pun.

Here's my #FF. I wonder if anyone will recognize the series...

  3. I adore the Twilight Saga too! :) People can diss these books all they want, but I they were the books that originally got me into reading YA! They're just AMAZING and I'm glad they also helped you!

  4. One reason I also like the Harry Potter series is I can share my love of it with my three daughters as they each grow old enough to read it-it is a family Bonding thing for us-all three of the series you mentioned are new to me-I have heard of Anne of Green Gables but not the others-I also like a lot a series of Books by the great Anglo/Indian writer R. K. Narayan all set in the imaginary community of Malguidi India

  5. I often wonder what I would think of Twilight the second time around, and I'm curious to see if there are things that I missed the first time around (as I'm sure there are bound to be). Happy Friday Alison!

  6. Yay for Anne Of Green Gables! I agree with you on the last movie. I think that Anne Of The Island may have been my favorite (next to the first). :) Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  7. I agree with Twilight! Great for multiple read throughs.

I hate to say I've never read Anne of Green Gables or seen the movies. I guess if I ever watch the movies I'll keep in mind that the last one is lame :-)

  8. Twilight an HP are also some of the series that I become totally engrossed in from time to time. I am just in love with them, and Mortal Instruments of course :P Just like you with Twilight, I always find myself coming back to MI.
Thanks for the visit and Happy Friday :D

  11. I've been thinking about checking out the Caster Chronicles. I wonder if that is one of the series I should look into for October? Hmm...

And yes, I have no doubt that we are going to be seeing lots of Harry Potter love. :D Can't blame people for loving those books.

Twilight... Hmm. That ended up on my list of Top 10 Tuesday. Maybe I'll give it a whirl next month as one of my vampire books and finally read it? It's certainly one of those "And of course you've read..." titles that everyone figures a reader has tackled.

    A very interesting list. :)

  16. As soon as I read the question, I thought 'Alison is going to say Harry Potter' lol. I did too, of course. I also LOVE Anne of Green Gables. I never have finished the entire series, but I keep thinking I'm going to start at the beginning and re-read the books I have read then keep going. I own a beautiful set, so I really have no excuse other than so many books, so little time.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I chose Anne as one of mine too. LOL. It always takes me back to my childhood. I have not read the Betsy-Tacy series but I love books from that time period. Thanks for mentioning them.

  29. Good morning! Hopping through, new follower here, thanks for the follow! I think the big reason the Twilight books are dissed as they are is because of the movies, which I'd never watch. The casting was all wrong for those, especially for Edward. He's a beautiful guy in the books, but in the movies, sorry, Robert Pattinson is just fugly. I liked the first book the best. I also liked the first five HP books, hated the sixth and won't read the seventh. But they did get young people to read, so that was a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I haven't re-read the twilight series for a long time, but for a few months back in 2008 I read them obsessively. Then I found the brothers...true? And never looked back. I like to re-read the HP series as well. I haven't read any of the others that you re-read though

  40. I could reread Twilight over and over too. I love the feelings I have when I read those books, especially in Twilight and Breaking Dawn.

And, I love Harry Potter! I think I need to read it each year too. I always discover new things. I love rereading the first ones with knowing how everything ends. You can see the amazing job Rowling did with foreshadowing. Love it!

I want to read Anne of Green Gables. My mom tried to get me to read it when I was a teenager, but I refused. Now, I wish I had.

  61. My friend has been encouraging me to read Anne of Green Gables :) If I see her again or drop by at her place, I'll borrow her copy. I remember re-reading this along with Robin Hood :D alto my FF post turned out different :D I would have reread HP but a friend has borrowed the collection and since they moved away, she wasn't able to return them but I'm happy they're in a new shelf enjoyed by a fellow HP fan. :D I've not heard about the Castor Series yet.

  64. My favorite re-read is also Twilight, and I knew HP would be a popular choice too. Twilight is an easy and enjoyable read which is why I think it's such a popular choice.

Thanks for hopping over to my blog yesterday. New Follower.

  65. Yes, I think you often do get more out of a book the second time. But, unfortunately, I don't often take that opportunity! Thanks for stopping by.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The second book in the Caster series was a little hard to get through! I remember thinking how awesome it was going to be, then having to force myself to keep reading :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hi, there, fellow Twilight lover!!! I'm so glad these books help you feel better when things aren't going well for you. I feel the same way, although I don't re-read them on a regular basis. I did refer to The Twilight Saga in my own answer, however, because I've read the series twice, and the first book three times. These four books, and especially the first one, are very, very special to me!! Sometimes I'll take one of them off the shelf just to hug it!! Lol. So I can definitely relate to your love for this series, and yes, in my case, it's a frequent FF answer, too!

The other series you've mentioned that I also love is the Harry Potter books. However, I haven't finished it -- I stopped reading it in the middle of Book 6, about a year ago. That's because of what happened to one of my favorite, most beloved characters...but I do love this series, and intend to go back and finish it, hopefully soon!

I have the book 'Anne of Green Gables', but haven't read it yet.

As for the Caster Chronicles series, I also have the books, and have yet to read them, too.

As the ssying goes, "so many books, so little time..."

The Betsy-Tacy series is one I've never heard of, but I will check it out!

    Have a GREAT weekend!! : )

    ReplyDelete
  68. I LOVE a good series - The Betsy-Tacey series sounds wonderful! From ages 5 to marriage, that sounds like quite a long series, I'll definitely have to check it out. I love when we're allowed the time to get to know characters and see them develop and change.
