Feature & Follow Friday #65

Current Giveaway on Alison Can Read

Welcome to Feature & Follow Friday (err Thursday) on Parajunkee.com

If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, Rachel of Parajunkee and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

*Thanks so much to Rachel for allowing me to be part of the Follow Friday fun. Parajunkee is one of the best blogs out there and FF is a highlight of the blogging community. The FF has been one of my favorite parts of my week for over a year and I'm so excited to help my fellow book bloggers get to know each other better.

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you! Now to make this #FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger.

If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the link here for Follow Friday Feature or go to Parajunkee and click the drop down link above FEATURES > Feature & Follow Friday and get on the waiting list!

It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Our Feature - Starcrossed

I started blogging years ago, but just for personal use. My days as a book blogger started just last month. I've always been a huge reader (and writer). I started getting into book blogs mainly because of all the giveaways. Then I started thinking about all the books I read. I read them, then put them back on the shelf. If the book effected me strongly, all I could do was tell a couple friends or coworkers about it and recommend it to them. But it seemed like such a waste for the books. I felt like...if a book was THAT good, then why not share with as many people as possible and help it get a following?

Q. What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?

Finally a question that I can't use either Twilight or Harry Potter as answers!

Part of me doesn't want to see any of my favorite books made into movies. Because with rare exceptions, the movie screws up the essence of the book. But there is always something enticing about seeing something you live portrayed visually.

Books I'd love to see made in movies:

If I Stay by Gayle Forman (Plus Where She Went): Don't know who I'd cast. Originally, this book was tied to Catherine Hardwick, the director of the first book. It's what initially led me to read the book.

Greyfriar by Clay and Susan Griffith: I'd love to see the Vampire Empire series made into films. They're dark and romantic. Could be an incredible movie. Or a really bad one.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: I think this would make as good a TV show as it would a movie.

If I think of more, I'll edit this post and add them.

Now for the Follow Fun!

RULES To join the fun and make new book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:

  1. (Required) Follow the Follow My Book Blog Friday Hosts {Parajunkee & Alison Can Read}

  3. Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say "hi" in your comments and that they are now following you.
  5. Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "HI"
  6. If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the Love...and the followers
  7. If you're new to the follow friday hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!

  1. I didn't even think of If I Stay/Where She Went until I read your answer! I am usually not a fan of book-movie adaptations so this was a really hard question for me!

  2. Great answer Allison! I have only read the first Vampire Academy book, but I think it would be more successful as a TV series.

  3. Vampire Academy for the win! That was one of my answers, too. :P Hehe.. I don't know who I'd really cast for it, though, to be honest. I don't really have a problem with books being made into movies. Maybe I'm weird for that? But I see them as two different forms as entertainment and try not to compare. True, I always love the books so much better and the movies usually never portray the book quite to my expectations-- however, I find the interpretations interesting and I like to see the differences and different forms. *shrugs*

Hope you have a fantastic weekend! :)

  4. I agree that Vampire Academy would make a great set of movies! Although, I'd be scared they'd mess it up - the fear I always have when they turn books I love into movies lol I have no idea who I would cast in which characters though, which is why I didn't name this one for my own choice LOL

  6. Oh my gosh, I would LOVE to see If I Stay & Where She Went as movies! They both make up one of the most beautiful and tear-jerking stories I've ever read -- I still cry every time I pick them up! x)

I think VA would make a much better TV show than movie because there's just too much to fit into a two-hour movie (or multiple two-hour movies)! But it would be SO cool to see how they'd do that! :)

Here's my Follow Friday! And you can still enter my 300 Followers Giveaway if you haven't already!

  7. Hi Alison! Long time no see... I agree with you, actually our answers kind of match, I don't want to see my favorite book turned into a movie, they never get it right!
    Have a great weekend!

  8. VA as a TV show would be really cool. I think that it would fit a TV show far better then it would a movie because it is pretty character driven and the pace of the book would fit TV better then the big screen. Great choice!

  9. I agree with you not wanting to see the movie. If I Stay would definitely make a great movie. and It would be so awesome if VA as a Tv show. Great choice and answer:)

  10. Good and interesting choices. Stopping here first as I go through the hop. Also going to the others as soon as I get the chance. Never thought of Vampire Academy as something that i would cast, even though I loved the series. I picked Mercy Thompson. Come visit me as well.

  19. Hi Alison
What order you read the Saint Germain books is up to you. Some characters reappear from time to time, but the way the stories are written it is not vital you know their back story for the most part. You could read them randomly, or in order published, or in chronological order with regards to the stories since they are not published in order of historical period. Check out Yarbro's site below to see the books in both published and chronological order. Maybe start with the one where the historical period interests you the most! ;)

  34. If I Stay would probably have me bawling after first three minutes. I love it so much. I think VA would be better as a show (a Vampire Diaries addict speaking) :D

  39. VA has been optioned so it might happen. I think it would make a good film too. There are some series I would be worried about because I'm not sure it would work out but I can see VA being ok. I'm remaining hopeful for if it does ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Vampire Academy would be great to see on film, and I agree that a series might be the right fit for it. I think I would be most concerned that they would get Dmitri right. When I read the series, I kept picturing Roy Dupuis as Dmitri.. he played Michael in the original LaFemme Nikita TV series back in the late 90s. He is probably too old to play Dmitri now, but I think his younger self would have been perfect.

    Have a great weekend!

  44. I hadn't thought of 'If I Stay/Where She Went'! THAT would be my answer if I thought more. Adam and Mia's story NEEDS to be told to a bigger audience, those that don't have the patience to read.

I'm intrigued by this series you've mentioned -- the Vampire Empire series. Gotta go check those out!! They sure sound like my kind of read!!

  57. AH... YES, Vampire Academy would be wonderful:D

So many books would be great in film adaptation as long as they did it right!

I thought Twilight book and Twilight movie were almost 2 different things...why oh why did they leave chapter 5 Where Bella faints with the blood in class out of Twilight movie to this day amazes me. Liquid fertiliser on field trip or a scene that is so ironic to the story...quite amazing.
