What Books? Favorite Books That You Didn't Love At First

Questions of the Week:

Blog Hop: Do you ever wish you would have named your blog something different?

Not really. At first, I planned to name it Snowbird Reads, after my dog and have cute pictures of my doc staring at (or eating) a book. But I decided that Snowbird wouldn't sit still for the pictures and the name would be confusing. I didn't put a huge amount of thought into Alison Can Read. It was just a name that came to me and sounded good enough. I rather like it.

Follow Friday: Share your current fav television show! Tell us a bit about it...

I'm so boring...I don't watch TV. We got a new digital cable box in November and I haven't been able to turn on the TV since! It's a complex 3-button process. Goes to show how much TV I watch that I haven't made the effort to remember how to do it (or to go watch the TVs upstairs or in the basement). The special rate we were getting ended this month, so we just cancelled cable completely and returned the box. Now, my TV is just a vessel for the Wii and the Blueray player.

  1. You are probably already well aware of this book, but I was on Amazon shopping around for deals, doing random book searches, when I came across this:

  5. That's kind of how my tv was at my apt. I used it mainly for my Wii and playstation and dvd player. I'm not much of a tv person.

  8. I don't watch very much TV either... We gave up cable last summer because no one ever watched it. I do try to catch Glee when it's on, but I ususally miss it. :)

    Happy Friday!

  9. I totally wish I wasn't as addicted to television as I was. Happy Friday!

  11. Happy Friday Alison! I can't believe you don't watch tv! I guess I can with how much you read, but even with how much I read I still like to sit and stare at the tv and watch ridiculous shows unfold before me:) It's addicting!

  12. VERONICA MARS! Best show ever haha I really shouldn't watch tv, but I get hooked on shows like that and Dexter. So addicting.

  14. What's in a name? Everything! A name is a label, a description and a promise. I'm very happy with mine - "Howard Sherman, Implementor" but it was quite a journey to get there.

Hop on over to my blog and find out why - http://www.howardsherman.net

  18. I often think my life would be a lot less busy if I were to give up TV. I don't want a lot of TV, but it's still enough. I think the fact that you don't even miss it (at least it sounds that way) is so good for you! Instead of wasting hours in front of a box, you get to spend it reading or doing other fun stuff.

  19. Love that you went with Alison Can read. Plus, if you'd gone with Snowbird Reads, even people seeing the dog pictures might think /you/ were the one nicknamed Snowbird. :-)

  20. I can't imagine life without TV. Lol, I'm such a typical teen! I didn't care about tv till I saw TVD. After that, I kept watching new shows (or old ones like Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and now I'm addicted.

Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for visiting Alison,

    -P.E.

  21. Hello! Hopping by. I don't think I could live without cable. Although, the billion channels available I hardly watch. I like the news and channels like TNT, HBO, USA, HGTV and Food Network. That's about it. I could do without the rest. I didn't think I watched a lot of TV, but I stick to shows I enjoy. That's awesome if you can devote your time to other things! Love Wii! Need to start playing that again. I usually only watch TV at night. During the day I read and working on my writing. Have a great weekend!

  28. I hardly watch TV on an actual TV anymore, I usually watch it online. I only watch it on an actual TV on Mondays and Thursday (sometimes Tuesday :P).

I also like your blog name :).

  29. How can you live without cable?! You're stronger than me! I tried for six months and just couldn't do it. After those six months, I vowed never again to be without it or a DVR ever again-- even if it meant less food in the house! :p

  42. I love your blog name and design!! But then again, we do have the same blog designer. :)

It's ok that you don't watch tv..a lot of people don't, so you're not alone. I do watch quite a few shows, but that's because once I start a series, with books or tv shows, I have to see it through to the end. I'm weird, lol.

I don't watch the actual tv either. I do watch a bunch of shows, but they're all on dvd. I even watch The Vampire Diaries on my computer.
