Waiting On Wednesday (22): The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking The Spine spotlighting upcoming releases.

The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney
February 8, 2011

-I love this cover!

Summary

Freak. That's what her classmates call seventeen-year-old Donna Underwood. When she was seven, a horrific fey attack killed her father and drove her mother mad. Donna's own nearly fatal injuries from the assault were fixed by magic—the iron tattoos branding her hands and arms. The child of alchemists, Donna feels cursed by the magical heritage that destroyed her parents and any chance she had for a normal life. The only thing that keeps her sane and grounded is her relationship with her best friend, Navin Sharma.

When the darkest outcasts of Faerie—the vicious wood elves—abduct Navin, Donna finally has to accept her role in the centuries old war between the humans and the fey. Assisted by Xan, a gorgeous half-fey dropout with secrets of his own, Donna races to save her friend—even if it means betraying everything her parents and the alchemist community fought to the death to protect.

  1. Lots of YA books with the word "Iron" in them. I wonder why? I just started my first fairy book and love it. This may be the next one. Thanks.

  5. Thanks for explaining about the "iron" issue Allison. Now it makes sense. It was driving me crazy! Lol...I'm reading Wondrous Strange. I've looked at it in the bookstore for months and finally decided to read it. I really enjoy it and can't wait to get to the sequel, though I have to finish this one first! I thought fairy books would be kind of lame, but I was wrong!

  15. How I hate it when I hear the word freak used. Generally an insult used by girls to insult other girls, I just think it is so cruel.

Rant over. This sounds like a book well worth a look, I love the idea of vicious wood elves, they sound just a little bit different from all the other 'supers' that seem to be doing the rounds at the moment.
