Feature and Follow Friday #254

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and ayou must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

How To Become a Featured Blog?

We pick our featured blogs randomly each week from the blogs who participated the week before.

Please be sure to feature your e-mail address clearly on your blog. Either on the main blog, on a Contact page, or on an About Me page. If I can't find your email easily, I will choose a different blog to feature.

Our Feature - Book Blog Bird

1. When did you start blogging?

I started my blog with a few posts in December last year, but ramped it up in January as part of my New Year's Resolution.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

I've loved connecting with so many other readers and it's brilliant when I get comments on reviews. It reminds me that people actually read my posts! It's also kind of cool (and freaky!) when an author or publisher re-tweets or favourites my reviews.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

I mostly review YA, and sometimes NA. I'm in a book club as well, so sometimes my blogs are about the books we've read (which can be pretty random!).

4. What are your favorite books?

YA is my favourite genre. I really think it's where all the best writing is to be found at the moment, especially if you like speculative fiction, like I do. I've recently discovered Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles series, which I've become really fangirly about!

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

It might sound a bit cheesy, but I've really loved meeting so many other bloggers who have a shared interest in books. I've been an avid reader my whole life, and I've always thought of reading as a solitary hobby, so it's fantastic to connect with other people who feel as passionately as I do!

Question of the Week: How do you write your reviews? - Suggested by Blue Books and Butterflies.

I don't have a particular plan. In general, I like to write a general synopsis of the plot, which hopefully doesn't repeat the publisher's synopsis too much. Then I comment on what I thought of the characters. Then the writing. Then generally whether I liked the book. So I suppose I do have a particular plan. But it doesn't feel that way when I'm writing it.

Mostly, I'm writing something in a hurry so I can get it posted for the next day. I used to be so good at prescheduling things. Need to get back to that.

How about you?

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

  3. Hee hee! Nice! Some times quick reviews are good though! I've read lots like that but I can never seem to do them myself because there's so much I want to talk about regarding a book! LOL!

    Thanks for visiting my FF!

  6. Thanks for stopping by earlier. I've tried to write my own synopsis for a review before but it didn't turn out to good. I ended up describing to much and couldn't figure out how to reign myself back in. Now I just stick with the authors synopsis. Old Follower.

  7. That's awesome! I've never thought too much about it, but I guess I do have a plan too. Like you I do a quick synopsis, then I talk about the characters, the plot, and my overall feel for the book. And I'm the world's worst procrastinator! I have 11 reviews I need to write right now ;)

  8. Hello Alison! The top gif of my post comes from the movie "InkHeart". It was based on the book although it doesn't resemble it. :)

  15. Stopping by to say "Hi".
I like to stay honest without being offensive in my reviews but when I start writing one I just go with my feelings and hope for the best.
Happy weekend and thanks for stopping by my blog.

  16. I tend to write my review in Word and save them until I put them up -- which often means it's usually in a hurry too. Prescheduling and taking notes are habits I should def get into.

  17. I don't even know anymore. I'm all over the place with reviews. I am needing to follow a clear-cut review template.

  25. Once I finish a book I jot down any thoughts/feelings I have the book. Then I walk away for a couple hours or a couple days. I come back and see if anything has changed then I write my review in one sitting. I proofread and hit scheduled and then published.
