Waiting on Wednesday: Wild Cards by Simone Elkeles

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine!

Wild Cards by Simone Elkeles
Publish Date: September 24, 2013
Publisher: Walker Books for Young Readers

I picked this up at BEA and I'm super excited to read it!

After getting kicked out of boarding school, bad boy Derek Fitzpatrick has no choice but to live with his ditzy stepmother while his military dad is deployed. Things quickly go from bad to worse when he finds out she plans to move them back to her childhood home in Illinois. Derek’s counting the days before he can be on his own, and the last thing he needs is to get involved with someone else’s family drama.

Ashtyn Parker knows one thing for certain--people you care about leave without a backward glance. A football scholarship would finally give her the chance to leave. So she pours everything into winning a state championship, until her boyfriend and star quarterback betrays them all by joining their rival team. Ashtyn needs a new game plan, but it requires trusting Derek—someone she barely knows, someone born to break the rules. Is she willing to put her heart on the line to try and win it all?

  10. This was one of my "can't leave BEA without" books Alison, I can't wait to read it either! I was a little bummed at how short it was, but that's just me being greedy and wanting more time with the characters Simone writes:)

  15. I haven't read a Simon Elkeles book yet, and what I find interesting about that cover is that it sort of reminds me of the NA redesign covers for Colleen Hoover. I do have some of her books, though, so I should probably get on that :). Hope the book is everything you're expecting!

  16. I was actually able to pick up an ARC of this at BEA. I haven't read any books by Simone Elkeles before, so I figured this is a good place to start. Although, I haven't started the book yet.

  17. I've already been hearing good things about this! Of course, it would take me much convincing to pick this book up, even with the good reviews. I just can't deal with such an embarrassing cover! And it's not my usual kind of read, though I should really push myself outside my comfort zone sometimes. So maybe as an ebook!

  18. I *just* started this one and I'm already liking it. I've only read one other book with a female football player (Dairy Queen), so I'm interested in this aspect of the novel. My main worry, though, is that I loved Rules of Attraction so much that Wild Card won't stand a chance.
