Feature and Follow Friday #138

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

How To Become a Featured Blog?

We pick our featured blogs randomly each week from the blogs who participated the week before.

Please be sure to feature your e-mail address clearly on your blog. Either on the main blog, on a Contact page, or on an About Me page. If I can't find your email easily, I will choose a different blog to feature.

Our Feature - Megz Madd Readz

1. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging a couple years ago, starting with a food blog, then a Bible study blog, a writing blog, and finally ending up with a book blog in December of 2012.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Definitely getting to share all my favorite books with other people. I think I've actually become obsessed with doing book reviews :) Once I read a book, I can't wait to tell others what I thought of it.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

Lately, it's been mostly YA. I read a little bit of everything, from Dystopian to Romance and all the odds and ends in between.

4. What is your favorite book(s)?

Well, right now it would have to be the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. I've read the first two and I'm on the third right now. They're amazing!

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Meeting all these amazing new people. I am having a blast connecting with other book bloggers :) Most of the channels I've subscribed to on YouTube are book videos. Like I said earlier, obsessed.

Q: Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you've done, that as you gained more experience you were like -- oops?

*The bar exam is over!!!!!! I'm looking forward to getting back into blogging. Planning to have things back to normal on Monday.

What mistakes did I make as a newbie blogger? I can't really think of anything I did "wrong" as a newbie. Actually, I'm much more critical of myself now. Lately, I've been making a lot of blog mistakes. Not writing reviews as soon as I finish the books, not posting as much, not commenting as much, not having as original ideas. I put it down to laziness. It was partly due to being busy studying, but also just going through a lazy spell. Luckily, I've had a break and time to recharge. So hopefully I'll be a much better blogger starting next week.

The only mistake I made as a newbie was accepting books for review indiscriminately. I was, as almost all new bloggers are, so excited to get review offer that I accepted books I didn't think were that good or self-pubs that were horribly written (not blanketly criticizing self-pubs. There are some great ones, but a few I accepted were really, really bad).

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

We have a new button, so update your blogs if you are used to doing this meme!

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

RULES

To join the fun and make new book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:
  1. (Required) Follow the Follow My Book Blog Friday Hosts {Parajunkee & Alison Can Read}
  2. (Required) Follow our Featured Bloggers
  3. Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say "hi" in your comments and that they are now following you.
  5. If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn't have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followed
  6. Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "HI"
  7. If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the Love...and the followers
  8. If you're new to the follow friday hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!

  1. Wow! Congrats!

I know, I should learn to decline and be critical about what I should review! Yay to NetGalley!

Anyway congrats!!!! 7. I'm glad your bar exam is over! I bet that's a huge weight off of your shoulders!

I've been bad about writing reviews a long time after I've read the book. I'm now working on writing up the review as soon as I finish reading it. :)

    4. Uhhhhh it keeps turning into a code

      < a
      href
      ="url">
      title
      < / a>

i hope this one works. It should be in one line. No space between < a and space between a and href. :)

No space also in the closing tag between < / a > but it won't show as an inactive link here..

  8. Congrats for getting thru the bar exam! We await the result :D

Saying no to requests is also hard for me, but I turned down one book already. Although the publisher kept trying to insist, but it's something that I felt I already clearly explained why I didn't want to accept the book.

Old follower :) I shared my booboos this week at my blog :)

  9. Seeing a lot of your second point, this was one thing I actually didn't do. If the book didn't interest me I would just pass, even though there was still a little guilt on my part.

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  10. Congratulations! Not sure I could go back to studying again :-) . . .I don't know how to make it say 'here's my follow friday' so my link is http://kvlovesbooks.blogspot.co.uk/!! I think my problem is just saying 'yes' to reviewing everything :-) lol!!

  11. High five on finishing the bar! I know that was stressing you out and now you can breathe.

Turning down requests is difficult because I feel horrible saying no. I do remind myself that if I don't have the time or I'm not interested in the plot, then I won't be able to give it the proper attention it deserves. It doesn't help the author.

  13. That happened to me! I accept review request without even knowing about the book. I was so naive back then, haha.

So how was the bar exam? :)

  16. Congrats on finishing the bar!! It's good that you took time off after to rest - cramming for University exams really takes it out of you...I can only imagine the bar! Saying to to review requests can be a challenge, especially in the beginning where it's so exciting to even get asked! Thanks for sharing & hosting Alison :)

  17. Congrats on exams being finished. Counting down the days for me to finish all my midterms.

I am totally guilty of all those things. Especially the not writing the reviews as soon as I should. Sometimes I just don't know how I feel and just am like...eh I'll write it later.

Thank you for sharing your sins! Happy Friday!

  18. I hope your bar exam went well! Isn't it such a relief when exams are all over with?

I have accepted a book or two I would probably have never gotten myself, but I think that's part of the learning curve :)

Have a fantastic Friday Alison :)
