I'm Alison. I've been blogging for nine months. I review mainly YA with a few MG books and a weekly manga feature.

Blog Hop: If you could physically put yourself into a book or series…which one would it be and why?

Hmmm....

1. Twilight - But only if I could be a Cullen.

2. Harry Potter - Isn't this one rather obvious?

3. Princess For Hire by Lindsey Leavitt - I just finished this one. I'd love to be a substitute Princess.

4. Betsy-Tacy by Maud Hart Lovelace - One of my all-time favorite book series. It's semi-autobiographical and set in Mankato, Minnesota (called Deep Valley in the books) between 1900 and 1910. I love reading about Betsy's high school friends hanging out at her house, eating fudge and onion sandwiches (not together) and singing to the tune of a piano. It sounds so idyllic.

1. One of my favorite things to do is read cookbooks. I got The Essential New York Times Cookbook by Amanda Hesser for Christmas. Even though I probably won't make many of the recipes, I love flipping through the pages and reading the stories about the recipes.

2. When I was a kid, I loved picture books that had an accompanying cassette tape. Since my mother got carsick, she couldn't read to me when we were on car trips. I loved listening along to my books. My favorite was The Fox and the Hound (also one of my favorite Disney movies).

3. I will use virtually anything for bookmarks. Actual bookmarks are one of the least frequent things I'll use. I often use the hold receipt from the library. Money seems to be a specialty of mine - cash, checks, receipts.

4. These days, I read mostly YA novels, but for years the majority of my reading was history and biographies. My favorite time period is the Revolutionary War and early American history. I wish I'd majored in history in college.

5. I'm an enabler. When we met, my husband hardly ever read anything other than medical textbooks. He'd loved reading as a kid, but got away from it in college and graduate school. I reignited the addiction. We don't read the same books (although I did get him hooked on White Cat and Red Glove by Holly Black), but we read together all the time.

    Lol! I use so many random things as bookmarks, as well! My chapstick was the only thing I had laying on my nightstand while I was reading today so I put that in my book temporarily! =P

    I know exactly what you mean, when I do read paper books (since I read mainly ebooks now that I have a nook) I NEVER use any of my (probably hundreds) of bookmarks, they never seem to be in reach when I need them, it's always some scrap of paper - a piece of junk mail or just something I tore off lol

    Love your answers! I'll agree, reading with a significant other is so much fun :) I also loved picture books with cassette tapes when I was younger... I played the Winnie the Pooh one's over and over again.

    Aw, I love The Fox and the Hound, American Revolution history, and flipping through cookbooks. This is like a post of my favorite things :) Just be careful with your money bookmarks! Wouldn't want to accidentally return a book with one of those bookmarks still inside.

    Hiya, old follower here just stopping by for the hop. As for #2 I wanted to share with you that I also listened to books and sing-along music on tapes when I was a kid, but they weren't just tapes, they were on my cassette-playing robot named Casey! I was so sad when that silly thing broke, but I used to bring it to bed with me like it was a Teddy Ruxpin when really it was made of cold, hard plastic lol! There is a picture of me when I was one or two laying in bed, staring at my robot as I fell asleep haha!

    Anyway, thanks for sharing and reminding me of my beloved toy robot and all the books "he" read to me! :)

You've certainly made some interesting series choices, and I don't blame you for specifying that you'd want to be a Cullen in the Twilight universe ;-) Also, I, too, use anything I can find as a bookmark although I do have to say that with my e-reader automatically taking me back to the page I was on, I love that feature :-)

    I'm an enabler, too. If someone says they 'don't' read, I always try to 'give them the gift' of reading by finding a book I think that will pique their interest. I feel so sad for those that don't read!

    Apologies in advance for my answer this week as it will not immediately resonate with the book blogger population which happens to be 99.5% female.

    My choice is a book series geared towards guys which won’t enthrall the vast majority of my fellow book bloggers (who are almost entirely female) with the extensive discussion of powerful weapons and sexy milspec gear, beautiful women, eye-popping action sequences (with occasionally obscene violence), and the like.

    I can't see being a book enabler as a bad thing. I got my sister into reading, and even when she calls me to complain about how sleepy she is at work because she read all night, I'm happy that she is reading. :D

    I put Harry Potter as one of my places to live, too! :) Hogwarts, here I come!!

    I also used to read a lot of stuff other than YA... my favorite historical time period is the 1900s - WWI ... Weird, I know. I used to always use anything for a bookmark - from toilet paper to a stick... But now I just use all the lovely swag I have! :)

    Thanks for the follow! I love your site design. It's absolutely cute. :] Followed back! I too take most of my manga out from the library but I also love to buy manga. I have a growing collection, haha.

    Harry Potter is such a favourite amongst most people. I haven't seen Twilight yet though. I'm almost surprised that I didn't see it all day until now!

    I know what you mean about bookmarks! Lately I've been using post its. Does that count as bookmarks? And sometimes my library card. I have to stop doing that or else I might forget to retrieve it after I'm finished. :S

    Great answers! I use anything for bookmarks as well. My favorite is a hotel key card I got from Disney World this summer. Actually, I think if I lost it, I would freak. I like it too much, but I use postcards and scraps of paper and stuff to mark my books.

    I have a stash of bookmarks on my bedside table, but since I read most everywhere anymore I use packing receipts, mail, pages from syllabuses (or is it syllabai?).

    Doesn't it just drive you freaking nuts when your husband goes on a cleaning rampage?

    Yes, the internet is a huge distraction. When I have nice bookmarks that are flatter than what you buy at the store I'll use them, otherwise I'll use scraps of paper or receipts, or the magazine subscription inserts.

    Thrilled to find you in my comments section!! Hello. Oh I do so love this beautiful blog. And haven't you done so well in nine tiny months? What's your secret - (I insist you write it down and pass it under the proverbial table - wink wink ;)?

    Ahhhhh - Anyway. Here because you lead me by the nose - ;) I buy recipe books (Jaimie Oliver and Rick Stein are fabulous) but like you say - rarely bother with a full on recipe cook night. I flick mostly to get ideas and to adore the pictures. Rick Steins is a Conish appreciation of fish. I'm half Cornish and love the area - and fish! It's a win win! ;)

    I think we are kindred spirits! I also use money and receipts (mostly receipts) for bookmarks! I buy real bookmarks all the time, because they are cute or there's a great quote on it or something, but I can never find them when I need them. It's like the one sock that goes missing from the laundry or something! LOL

    Hi, Alison. Hopping back through, I'm kinda like you I used to have a ton of those books with cassettes when I was a kid where the tape would tell you the story and you'd follow along with the book. I wish I still had them now, I'd share them with my niece. :)

    I use random objects for bookmarks too! Sometimes receipts, candy wrappers, homework; you name it and odds are it has held a place in a book for me!

    I wish I could get my boyfriend to read. He'll pick up a book every now and then, but for the most part it's not his thing. I did get him to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which he really liked. He also read my Beedle the Bard book before I did. I guess I just have to find the right things.

    Ditto for using the receipt as a bookmark. I tend to keep the receipts in the book when I purchase them - it's kind of an OCD habit. So, when I read any book I usually have a built in bookmark.

    I think it's awesome that your husband reads with you..

    Thanks for visiting! My boyfriend's aunt loves reading cookbooks too, even though she hardly ever makes the stuff in them. And I totally get what you mean with using stuff as bookmarks, I use the receipts from the library all the time :P.

    Thanks for stopping by my blog. I think it is too funny that you occasionally use money as bookmarks - wouldn't that be a great surprise to find a $10 bill in a book that you re-read? But not so great if you swap or sell it, lol.

    I majored in history, but my concentrations were in the American Civil War & Reconstruction time periods and U.S. Urban history. I LOVE HISTORY! But I guess I'm not the only nerd out there, haha.

    And I would love to be a Cullen!

    I have so many cookbooks & I don't really cook..lol I love to look through and dream.
    I'm the same with bookmarks - the thing I use most frequently are those subscription cards that fall out of magazines. There always seems to be one around.

    Hi! I never use bookmarks ever. Ive bought them cause they are pretty but never use them. I never have been able to use them. My friend think its weird that I know where I was just by opening the book.

    I was a history major, I love western Civ especially Greek and Roman. I love learning about that stuff but have never read a book because I cant find one that doesn't read like a textbook. I heard James Patterson King Tut was written like fiction but I haven't sat down and tried it yet.

    I also really like "reading" cookbooks, but I don't relly know why. It's the same with those magazines that show you have to furnish your house. I lvoe looking at them, but I'll never use any of it!! XD
