Feature and Follow Friday #248

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and ayou must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

How To Become a Featured Blog?

We pick our featured blogs randomly each week from the blogs who participated the week before.

Please be sure to feature your e-mail address clearly on your blog. Either on the main blog, on a Contact page, or on an About Me page. If I can't find your email easily, I will choose a different blog to feature.

Our Feature - Exploring Pages

1. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging around the age of twelve or thirteen years old back in 2010.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

To be able to receive highly-anticipated books as advanced reading copies. Every time I get approved, I let out a small squeak of happiness. I also love to share my opinion with the rest of the world, in order to make them as excited as I am.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

My blog consists mainly of YA books. However, I do like to switch it up every once in a while and read an adult book, new adult or middle grade.

4. What are your favorite books?

The Percy Jackson series and The Heroes of Olymus series by Rick Riordan, no doubt about that. I fell in love at the very first page of The Lightning Thief, and I still am up to now.

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Receiving advanced reading copies from the "bigger" publishers such as HarperCollins, Penguin and Bloomsbury. It makes me feel like my reviews really are worth all the effort I put into them, and it just gives me a great satisfaction. Especially for a little girl from Belgium.

Question of the Week: Have you ever read a book you thought you'd hate but loved? Or vice versa? - Suggested by A Great Read.

First off - Sorry that I listed this as the question for last week and answered a different question. I wasn't thinking. You all were smarter than me and answered the proper question (which was the question I answered but not the one I asked).

And to be contrary, I'm going to give a slightly different answer to this question. I'm going to focus on two books that I didn't love the first time I read, but came to adore later:

The President's Daughter by Ellen Emerson White - I read this in 7th or 8th grade. It's set in the 80s and about a 16 year old girl whose mom becomes president. The first time I read it, I thought it was fine but nothing special. I re-read it several years letter and fell completely in love. I've read this book over and over again. And all the sequels. I wish there were more. It's so delightfully 80s and the story is great.

The other book is The Mozart Season by Virginia Euwer Wolff. It's about a pre-teen girl who spends a summer preparing for a big violin competition and just discovering life in general. It was one of those books that was fine the first time, but became magical the more I let it sink in after reading. Even better, it's set in Oregon which is where I'm spending my week right now (visiting my grandmother).

How about you?

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say "hi" in your comments and that they are now following you.
  5. If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn't have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followed
  6. Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "HI"

  2. Oh wow! The Mozart Season has a lot of elements similar to If I Stay; the setting which is in Oregon, the musical camp, a string instrument; interesting.

  3. OOh that's interesting. Lately I rarely go back and re-read something, but it's cool that you enjoyed it more on the second time around!

  6. I can't think of any off the top of my head that I learned to love on a second read but I imagine plenty of the books I read in high school would go over a lot better now, when I'm reading them by choice.

  8. Unfortunately, I've read three books lately that I thought I would love and ended up not liking at ALL. I hate when that happens. It's so disappointing.

  9. This is a good idea, I'm sick of the usual follow-for-follow hysteria.
