Not a Drop to Drink
by Mindy McGinnis
Publish Date: September 24, 2013
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.
Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.
Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.
But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….
With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.
Excellent choice! I've heard nothing but good things about this book so far!
ReplyDeleteOk I love the cover - but... I'm tired of Dystopians so I probably won't read it... Still, looking forward to hear what you think!
ReplyDeleteThis does have a great cover, I agree, but this description is absolutely not one I'm interested in at all. People seem to be all over it though. Enjoy it if you get your hands on it! Happy reading.

Hi, Alison!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by and commenting on my WOW! I REALLY appreciate it!!
Sorry for the late comment back...but here I am at last! Anyway, I think your pick this week is very interesting, and I like it!! It sounds very original, and not a little scary, too. Why are these people guarding a pond? What caused the scarcity of water in their area -- or the world, most likely? Oh, I want to know!! So I'm adding this book to my Goodreads TBR shelf right now!! Thanks so much for the heads up!! : )
P.S. I'm now following you with GFC and Bloglovin'. : )
ReplyDeleteThis looks so cool-scarcity of water is something that really frightens me and I'm so glad I don't have to live like that.
ReplyDeleteOh, I cannot wait to read this book. It sounds so...intense!
