Questions of the Week:
Blog Hop: Find another blogger who is having a giveaway and promote their giveaway for them!
I know just who to promote. One of my favorite blogs: Jenni Elyse!
She is giving away a signed copy of Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter in honor of her fourth blogoversary. Check out her GIVEAWAY!
Follow Friday: Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?
I want to be careful about answering this one. There are a few books I've read recently (especially of the self-published variety) that would fit this question well, but I don't want to hurt any feelings. Luckily, the answer Alexis posted at Reflections of a Bookaholic inspired me. This author can't be insulted, because he's been dead a long time.
Waverly by Sir Walter Scott
Ten years later, I don't remember exactly why I hated Waverly. I think it was because it was long, flowery, and the hero was rather wimpy. But I do remember the Sir Walter Scott Monument in downtown Edinburgh. Our class unanimously voted to stack all our copies of Waverly at the base of the monument and shout "Take it back, Walter!" (I wish we'd actually done it. It would have been hilarious.
I'm already a follower. My answer is up for Friday Follow
ReplyDeleteHi, just stopping in via the Blog Hop! New follower here.

ReplyDeletealready a follower,,just wanted to hop thru and say have a great weekend..and I haven't heard of that author,,
ReplyDeletejennifer
Classics can be harder to enjoy. I really don't like many of them myself. Can count the ones I like on one hand actually!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Friday Hops
Have a GREAT weekend!!
Old Follower :)
I agree with Jessica, I always struggle a bit with the classics. The one I remember having the most trouble with Crime and Punishment. I could barely keep my eyes open reading that one, I just felt like nothing ever happened after he murdered the poor woman. Only test I ever got a D on because once I finished, I couldn't remember a single thing about the book outside of the murder:) Have a great weekend Alison, and I will most definitely be avoiding Waverly:)
ReplyDeleteHey Allison! Old follower! Just stopping by the blog hop! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for listing my giveaway as your hop answer! I really appreciate the love! :D Have a great Friday!

ReplyDeleteLOL, You should of done it.
ReplyDeleteAlready a follower! Have a great weekend.
Old follower stopping by! It is hard to read classics and enjoy them, so good answer. I've never heard of that book, but if you didn't like it, I probably won't be reading it! Happy Friday and check out my answer on my blog!
ReplyDeleteKristen @suchateenagebookworm.blogspot.com

Cute story! I've never read Waverly, but from the sound of it I doubt I'd enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my post! Have a great weekend. :)
I love Vampire Knight. I'm only on the third one though. I just recently got introduced to manga.
ReplyDeleteI've never read Waverly, but it doesn't exactly seem like my cup of tea anyway lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog! :)
Hope you have a fantastic weekend :)

Haha I like how you chose a book whose author's already dead, because that way no one gets insulted! :) And it's hilarious how your class wanted to return all the books at the monument LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my FF! :)
Felicia
A Novel Paradise
LOL that's a hilarious story. I love your blog and I will be following you as soon as your follow button reappears :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by at http://kafkatokindergarten.blogspot.com
Hi Alison! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. I've read worse books than the one I featured, but they were self-published so I didn't dare mention them. Maybe I should have chosen a dead author. XD
I hope you have a nice weekend!
Thanks for stopping by. I've never read Waverly--it's one of those books I've always heard of but never heard of anyone actually reading it. You're one of the few I've heard of making it through that book :)
ReplyDeleteYeah that sounds like something I wouldn't want to read...LOL! Stopping by on the Friday Follow...have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi, just following back.
ReplyDeleteThat would've been a great moment if your class actually did that and recorded it on video.
Have a wonderful weekend.

I am a new follower. I saw you stopped by my hop. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for visiting my blog, I've come to return the Follow Friday love :)
ReplyDeleteI feel that way about a bunch of classics haha! I think it's just the different style of English, usually, that prevents me from fully enjoying them! Though there are a handful of classics I do enjoy, heh.
Old follower here. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Hope you have a great weekend :-)
ReplyDeleteits looks boring. poor classic.
ReplyDeleteThat would have been hilarious, trying to get Walter to take back is horrible novel. I haven't read that one, but my FF answer is a novel written near that time period. And, I suppose I'm glad I can't insult the author, either.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Alison. Wishing you a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Vampire Knight too ... I stopped for sometime coz it seemed to be getting too depressing ... but I couldn't help myself and came back. LOL.
ReplyDeletehi,
ReplyDeletethank you so much for stopping by my blog!
Have a wonderfull weekend
Kyanara
Thanks for stopping by my blog! :D
ReplyDeleteLOL, great story! I've never read the book, but I am curious to do so now (just to find out myself, haha).
Have an awesome weekend!
ooh, you're clever! you can't offend the author this way. lol happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I chose a book I was required to read 16 years ago. I figure if I still remember it being bad then it must be true.
ReplyDeleteGirl Who Reads
HAHA! I love your post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! :)
Sounds like it must have been a fun trip, even if Waverly wasn't!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the blog visit. :)
Whew! Kind of glad I don't do Parajunkee's hop right now, because just like you, I could list some self-pubbed books that were horrid (one I pushed myself through because it had good ratings; I don't know why, though). Using one by a dead author would be better (but kind of untrue, since the first three that popped into my mind weren't) :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have never read Sir Walter Scott, that is nice of you to pick a dead person so feelings don't get hurt. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never read Waverly... with so many good books out there, it's hard to believe that they would assign you that!!
ReplyDeleteHi, Alison! :) Old follower stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAww, you're so considerate! I've actually never even heard of that book, but I love you were kind enough to choose a book where the writer couldn't possibly be offended :)
Hope you have an awesome weekend!
Thanks for stopping by at http://kafkatokindergarten.blogspot.com following you now
ReplyDeleteHaha, I loved your answer! I was in the same boat, I've read a few self published books lately that were just awful, but I didn't want to throw them under the bus...so I picked an author that is more established. Maybe that was wrong

ReplyDeleteNew follower! Oh goodness, I read a book from the same era called Evelina. A ground-breaking book as far as women's lit goes, but boy was it boring!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by http://yasweetescape.blogspot.com
I said a similar experience with Sir Walter Scott
ReplyDelete's Ivanhoe. I read it for school, (out of choice really since we had several books to choose from), and while I technically read every page I have NO IDEA what happened. I daydreamed the entire time I read it and didn't absorb anything. So when it came time to actually write a report on it, the internet came into play because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to tell a thing about the story.
Well, first, I'm jealous you got to go to all those places. I've only been to London. :( Second, LOL, you totally should have done it!
ReplyDeletelol I love that, "this author can't be insulted because he's been dead for a long time". :-P
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, that's kind of why I stay away from most self-published books. No offense to the author themselves, but it can be few and far between that a self-published is good. I just would hate to have to sift through all the bad stuff to get to the good. :-\
Thanks for stopping by my follow friday and book blogger hop as well!
♥ Sarah
I'm not sure I have even heard of that book! And a good way to ensure the author won't be hurt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI am stopping by and a new follower. You stopped by my blog and commented on Dean Kootnz, his new book is lacking but there are some really good books that he has written. I'm sorry you had to read a somewhat bad review about him.
I hope I can read another of his books soon and write a good review of him soon!
Thanks for taking time out to stop by my blog today!
Thanks for hopping by my blog! Hope you had a great weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteBelatedly hopping through (computer and blogger were having arguments, it seems) - I like your choice of the worst book.. sometimes it's nice to know what to NOT add to the TBR pile!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week!
Amanda
Hey there!
ReplyDelete*yawns* The cover looks so boring! No wonder you had a hard time reading it!
Anyway, just dropping by to say hey and I'm a new follower.
